Five-O’s Tiki Foundation Scholarship Application

In honor of Mike Tilley, the FIVE-O’s TIKI FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP is awarded annually to two qualified graduating high school students whose parent(s) are active, retired, or deceased members of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office and the Henrico County Police Division who are attending an accredited college/university or technical/trade/vocational institution in the United States.

The Scholarship Committee will be made up of three Five-O’s Tiki Foundation members. The top applicant from Hanover and Henrico will each receive $1,000.00 check written directly to the attending accredited college/university or technical/trade/vocational institution in the United States in the winner’s name.

 
 
 

The prospective Freshman scholarship applicant must meet the following criteria:

  • Applicant must be the biological, adopted or stepchild of a Hanover County Sheriff’s Office or Henrico County Police Division Officer.
  • Application period is until May 15, 2023. No applications will be accepted beyond the May 15 deadline to allow for public announcement and distribution of funds.
  • Applicant must be a 2023 high school graduate (public, private or homeschool).
  • Applicant must be pursuing a bachelor’s, associate’s, certificate, graduate or law degree at any accredited college/university or technical/trade/vocational institution in the United States.
  • Applicant plans to attend in the following year of the student’s graduating year.
  • Applicant must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and attending school in the United States.
  • If, for any reason, the applicant does not attend school, the awarded scholarship amount must be returned to the Five-O’s Tiki Foundation Scholarship fund.
  • Submit a completed Five-O’s Tiki Foundation Scholarship application below.

Based on these criteria, all graduating seniors are invited to apply for the FIVE-O’s TIKI FOUNDATION Scholarship.

Five-O’s Tiki Foundation Scholarship Committee must receive your application and supporting material no later than May 15, 2023, for scholarship consideration for the Fall semester.

The winner agrees with their parent(s) to attend a scheduled concert in June for the public announcement of the Five-O’s Tiki Foundation Scholarship winners.

Directions to Apply

You will be asked for the following documents to upload.  Please do not proceed with the application until you have the below documents ready to submit.

  • Resume (no longer than two pages)
  • Essay (name only on the top of first page)
    • Submit an essay between 350-450 words (typed, double spaced in Times New Roman 12) discussing “Decision making is increasingly difficult among younger people, explain a situation where you had to make a difficult decision in your life, explain how this decision has shaped your character and how your decision had influenced others.” Only the top of the first page will contain the scholarship applicant’s name and the content will not mention any family names or jurisdiction. The essay will be read, evaluated objectively and anonymously by the scholarship board. (Please do not include any personally identifying information in the essay).
  • Acceptance Letter from an accredited college/university or technical/trade/vocational institution in the United States.
  • List the voluntary services performed and/or participating in during the past three years
    • Include a description and time frame. These details must be typed on a separate sheet of paper with your name on the top.
  • Recommendations letters from three respective leaders in your community.

Public School Students:

  • High School Transcript (9 th thru 12 th grade)
  • Standard of Learning (SOL) Scores or Equivalent

Homeschooled Students:

  • Homeschool Transcript (9 th thru 12 th grade)
  • National Standard Test Scores or Equivalent
